Question?

Do you find that the Coloured community have a sense of apathy in responding to statements and comments that could affect their lives, do they even have an interest in the larger community around them or is it just about the here and now and what affects them directly?

Greetings

Isn’t it good to be seeing the end of yet another week (short) and most of us looking forward to the rest on the weekend while others still need to work. I have found out something interesting about the blogs and that is if you subscribed to the live feeds, comments and posts then I don’t have to clog your inbox with repetitive mail. At first I thought of adding a log-in for all people wanting to view and comment but that might be selfish. If you have subscribed to the live updates, posts and comments please reply to this mail and I will ensure you do not receive the e-mailed updates in future. If you are not sure on how this works please e-mail me or give me a call on 031 304 9305 / 083 871 7549 and I will be glad to be of assistance to you.

Leanne I would like to use your ‘Where are the Days??? comment/post with your permission that is for a discussion on facebook and the blog.

I have allowed a young man 17 years old to write articles that will be posted on the youth in short blog. He has very interesting views and thoughts for a person of his age and he deserves the opportunity to express himself.

This opportunity is open to any of you who would like to say something that has been heavy on your chest for a while. Don’t worry too much about things I will do basic editing of it with regard to spelling and a little grammar but your point won’t be altered and the meaning changed.

Sorry this mail has been so long but I just need to inform you of all that will be happening in the near future.

Regards

. . .” Failure?”. . .

By definition :
* A person or thing that has failed – to fail is to not do something, or try to do something but you are, at that time, not able to succeed. .
I have come across many quotes and articles based on the concept of failure – but somehow, I always been unable to remember any of them.
In everything I have ever done, I have always made certain that I limit the complaints and aim to look to the positive.
But, how often does one see the good in ‘failing’?…( is there any? )

Why should I have to fail first before I learn how to do something and do it properly?
Today I learnt that even a well-maintained façade can fall victim to failure. Failure has a way of pulling apart every limb of your being – how do we then, put those pieces back together?
Whether it is possible or not, I am yet to find out. . .

When my being is at it’s most vulnerable state; spare me your facetious remarks. I have preached and lectured a thousand times on the ideal of ‘picking yourself up and dusting yourself off after a fall –

I even remember writing : ‘the actions of a man, when he’s at his lowest point – determines his worth’ -
I now see, the difficulty that persists in trying to live up to that notion- but, i do maintain that. . I’m up for the challenge.
I’m not going to give up on my aspiration to make something of myself – no one, nothing, and no ‘test’ can take that away from me-
So, Failure, you may have taken away the flame that made me shine so bright – but I still have the spark to make everything be alright. . .

Maybe it’s just me, but I thank GOD that I have not been able to see someone from Fairvale who is a total failure. I mean living on the streets, eating out of bins, begging for money, dirty with torn clothes etc. Everyone that I have seen and recognise seems to be living quite well. Holding down a job, family, roof over their heads etc. I mean I don’t know of any celebrities and people from that time who are on a completely “higher level” than everyone else, but thank GOD that I don’t know anyone who is on a completely “lower level.” I think we all turned out just fine, but that just my thoughts. Let me know what you guys think….(slightly edited)

Class News

Vol.4   What made it different… (1989 and Beyond)     09/04/2009

This news letter comes from a reminder of one of my friends, Russell Moyce. You may or may not know him, but he is also an ex-Fairvalian. While chatting with him on Facebook one day he posed the question, ‘what was Jaffar’s favourite saying?’ ‘Look smart, think smart.’ How many of you remember that one.

By now we would be into this whole schooling thing as we have come through 4 whole years of schooling St.9 as it was known then now classified as Gr.11. Some of us cracked the nod and are selected as prefects, I still wonder if it was a good thing. We all have the same thoughts in mind, the finish line of Matric is in sight and not much longer before take that step into school knowing that this will be our last year. How many of us remember the Ray-Ban Gang, the ‘prestige’ of playing volleyball on the ‘Big-Ou’s’ side of the Quad. What has ever happened to those days?

News Flash: this was the year 9 Tech1 watch with great anticipation as Mr. Conway sets his desk, register, pants and nearly the family jewels (we hope) alight during an experiment with red ferrous sulphate.  He being the Science teacher would have known that it reacts with oxygen and that extreme care needed to be taken when working with it. Thanks to the quick action of Ricardo Fynn, who was standing at the fire-extinguisher for some reason, he managed to play fire-fighter for about 15 seconds and then spent the next hour in hilarious laughter about the situation. I think that was one of our biggest high-lights for that year.

It is amazing how some of these memories have stuck while others have eluded me. This was the year when some people had a tendency to like some of the teachers and others just despised them. Take Ms. Bassier as a case in point, she was good with her maths and worked really hard helping the hopeless and they still turned and commented about her breath problem. I don’t think it was that bad just that others, as Bruin-ous like to, over overed about the situation when it wasn’t that bad. Mr. Selby considering his condition always thought he was in his prime and his morning motivational speeches, how could we forget, always wanting to crack someone with his big ash-tray or wooden board duster.

‘There’s no need standing up for the right, unless you going to stand up against the wrong…’ our very own Take5, Boys to Men accapella groups crooning to their hearts content. One of them gave up his hobby of horse racing and commentary to sing to a different audience (this will be your quiz… Who is this mystery person?)

Caution…

by Quinton Kippen

Melissa Van Wyk “Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.” — Robert H. Schuller

This I found very interesting posted by a friend on Facebook. A recent situation has left me asking a few questions, seeking answers of understanding. We all have feelings, memories, thoughts, a history and experiences. As we journey through life we find that these areas are affected in some way in our day to day life.

Our experiences do differ in varying degrees and this cannot be disputed or taken away from you neither can they be denied that it did or did not exist or happen.  The down side to this is that many people live very close to this especially the hurts more than the joys. Usually our hurts, although could be far less than our joys triumph in conflict. For some reason we allow this to be our area of comfort and security. As soon as people encounter the first sign of conflict the ‘defense’ from a hurtful experience comes to the fore. I do not contest the appropriate or inappropriate use of this mechanism, though it does leave room for concern.

This does make it difficult for personal development and growth as a person dwells so much in the past of that hurt and the fear of not wanting to be hurt that they miss the opportunity to learn. Being aware of your past hurts and situations is always there as a reminder of your history and the lessons you learned from them. ‘Once bitten twice shy,’ were the lyrics to a song, and this could be the ‘safest’ area for people to be in. Derrell PetersenIs a believer in time heals all wounds,’ although you play a key part in allowing the process and learning from it and then move on. I have had my fair share of hurt and many other experiences of which I am thankful to have experienced. I do believe that if more people understood the process without judgment and allow time, who I believe is not the healer, but rather the teacher, teacher of understanding and positive growth then and only then will they enjoy the and benefit from the experience.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not encouraging hurtful experience I am encouraging learning and personal development through the experience. Learn from it not shy away, embrace your feelings and thoughts, grow stronger as a person and don’t use your emotions as a defense.
