Class News Vol 1

Reminiscing (1989 and beyond)

16/12/2008

This letter being my 1st newsletter so to speak of a number of articles and letters that I have written starts with a little walk down memory lane. I think so far back to the first days of Fairvale Secondary School. Days of when Hadley Brauns brought He-Man figurines to school, when the Tokoloshie Gang (Bradley Snyman, Sherwin Jafta, O’Reagan Ogle and Deon Harber) started. These guys were ruthless and callous when it came to stealing of people’s lunch and any other item which they liked and wanted.

My memory fails me in trying to recall other such events which should have been recorded there and then. I managed to find this pic in the archives of all my horded clutter and I think it makes for interesting discussion and idle chat. Class party of then 6 Tech2 of 1989, venue the ‘late’ Village Green, menu Braai. If anyone has seen any of these crooks you free to send me an e-mail or forward me any of your fond memories of those happy school days.

I will try my best to try and recall some of those happy moments and unforgettable experiences. Should you like to include your articles or pictures please e-mail them to me and I will try my best to ensure this news is dissipated consistently. Should you know of anyone not on e-mail and deserved of this valuable information, please print it (when the boss is not looking) and forward it to them.

My school years are full of good memories and reunions help relive them these letters will be valuable to our children when our memories fail us.

We can Always ask Draai if the rumours were true…

Mrs Gunther now lives in Australia and is still married to Mr Welskiet. Did you know that her brother-in-law is Father Wayne at Christ the King parish in Wentworth?

Can anyone confirm if things are really as bad as some people are making it out to be in Wentworth right now? I have heard that the violence is back and so are the gangs and drugs. Is it all just hype or is it really that bad?

I have a story from school days… I remember we used to play basketball and king with the tennis ball. I remember going on the school roof to fetch a basketball and breaking the tiles. It was above the electrical workshot… Almost shat my pants as I thought I was gonna fall straight through the room… LOL…

Remember when we first arrived at Fairvale School, we had a teacher in STD 6, can’t recall her name but she use to always say that she can look at you but see what is happening at the back of her.
We use to laugh so much. We had good days at Fairvale. Remember the soccer boys and netball girls tournaments

Hi Genevieve
Sorry I can’t remember if she taught me, what subject did she teach, maybe it was then Miss Gunther and when we returned from a school break she was Mrs. Welskiet. Was there not a roomer that she and Draai were involved at some point. She taught Maths and later Geography. I could be mistaken don’t quote me or hold me to it.
Keep the comments coming.

Hi all….I have been looking at the picture gallary and having a good laugh thinking about the good old days…..I will never forget how Ricardo Fynn and some of his side kicks stole one of my text books and I had to pay R14 to buy it back from them…… Also Tanya Labastour came to school one day with green hair and went to cry in the sectretary’s office saying that her stomach is sore and her hair is turning green (the lucky girl got sent home)…..

7. Bradz - February 24, 2009

in the 2 yrs that I spent in the posh school (back in the day), I mangement to make life time friends, in fact, I found my wife there…yes I married a Fairvalian (did’nt you?). 20 yrs down the line we still recall and laugh at the wonderful events of our lives at Fairvale.
The best concerts, the best sports team and the most beautiful gals & hams came from Fairvale……the best school days…..
I think we need to honour OUR teachers or do something real special…they played a part of who we are today!!!!
Yes, lets hear those wacky stories, I shall dig up the old pics and post them soon

GOD Bless

Rus
